At first known as the Majestic Cinema, a first generation Odeon cinema opened on Saturday August 22, 1936 with “When Knights Were Bold”, an adaptation described by the Daily Express as an unimaginative musical farce.

Today it remains almost unchanged after seventy years have passed – with even its interior appearing unchanged!

Margaret Durdant-Hollamby founded Sevenoaks Theatre Action Group (The Stag) in 1982 to bring theatre back into Sevenoaks. As a result of her efforts, The Stag was reopened in 1983.

Since then it has been at the heart of the town for decades and is a busy, welcoming community arts venue with two digital cinema screens. It shows a wide range of local shows, and national touring productions from comedy to musicals.
